Father Malachi Martin, eminent theologian, expert on the Catholic Church, served in Rome, where he was a close associate of the renowned Jesuit Cardinal Augustin Bea and Pope John XXIII. This well respected triple doctorate stated on the Art Bell show in April of 1997, before his mysterious untimely death in 1999, that the Vatican has the larger part of the control of an observatory on Mount Graham in Arizona. When asked why the Vatican suddenly became interested in looking at deep space objects, his response was: "Because … those at the higher levels, the highest levels of Vatican administration and geo-politics, have knowledge of what's going on in space, and what is approaching us, that could be of great importance in the next five to ten years."
The German magazine "Stimme des Glaubens," has published the following account of Pope John Paul II's interview, with a small group of German Catholics, on the occasion of his visit to Fuida, in November of 1980. The question: "Holy Father, what has become of the 3rd Secret of Fatima? The Holy Father's response: "… it should be sufficient for all Christians to know this much: if there is a message in which it is said that the oceans will flood entire sections of the earth; that, from one moment to the other, millions of people will perish...there is no longer any point in really wanting to publish this secret message. Many want to know merely out of curiosity, or because of their taste for sensationalism, but they forget that 'to know' implies for them a responsibility. It is dangerous to want to satisfy one's curiosity only, if one is convinced that we can do nothing against a catastrophe that has been predicted."
